Northumberland golf is both a challenge and an experience to the many players who are tested .and "hooked" on the magical scenery that this area offers. We are literally a drive and a pitching wedge away from a James Braid masterpiece of design- Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Course. Bamburgh golf course is another great links course with magnificent scenery and views over Budle bay and Holy Island, starting off with two par threes and with the sea to the right you have to judge your shot well especially with it being the first, Its normally a seven iron! It was one of Peter Alliss favourite courses on his way back from the open. Just a brief note, Bamburgh are not offering any discounts anymore to any of the hotels locally! Goswick golf course is about a twenty five minute drive away from the Hotel and is yet again another testing links course. It is about a ten minute drive from Berwick Upon Tweed. They are very helpful and offer groups of golfers a warm welcome. Those wishing to book the courses above could be entitled to a discount rate at Dunstanburgh, Goswick and Linden Hall! If you do your own booking of tee times and look after your own correspondence, dont forget to ask for 10 % Other courses we get discounts on are Alnwick. If we do the bookings for you we don't pass on the discount. A great way of playing some of the best courses on a budget is by booking the Golf Classic! This is midweek only and offers groups or individuals to play Bamburgh, Goswick and Foxton which is in Alnmouth for the reduced rate of £78.00 for 2006. This gives a saving on the three course price of about 25% or play three courses for nearly the same price as two. We also have an arrangement with Linden Hall Golf Club, which is a beautiful inland course, about half an hour drive from the Sportsman. Golfing holidays in Northumberland could not be tailored any better! The choice of food and drinks we offer is excellent. Timothy Taylor Real Ale , fantastic wines and a menu that comprises of local and seasonal produce. Examples can be seen on our menu page. As a quick taster Crisp Fish with chilli, garlic and basil or Rib Eye Steak Bearnaise and chips or wild Sea trout with baby asparagus, scallop cream and Tiger Prawns. Overlooking the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, the sandy beach of Embleton Bay and the links course of Dunstanburgh we are in an enviable position in the village. Dunstanburgh is a great course the green keepers are doing a great job of keeping moisture in the greens. The first hole is a dog leg to the right and in my opinion is one of the hardest on the course, the green is two teared with a big slope to the left and the combination of the two making it play long. The second is a blind summit dog leg to the left with a big sloping fairway to the right and quite often a blind pin. If you can play to the left of the white marker by about ten yards, max fifteen , you will be in a great position. Hole four is called the Plateau and is extremely taxing if the wind is blowing. Big bunkers and a high elevated green which is not flat makes it all the harder if the wind is blowing and guess what, it always blows. Anyway I'm sure you will find this all out for yourself.
