If you are a romantic or someone who is looking for great fresh local seasonal food, a person who loves wild places, a walker or simply looking for a break in a friendly hotel Northumberland could be the place for you. We overlook one of the best beaches in Britain, Embleton Bay.

From the windows of our hotel Northumberland beaches can be viewed all the way to the remote Farne islands and Holy island and Dunstanburgh Castle is in full view to the right of the hotel.

Northumberland has lots to offer the visitor and the Sportsman is a great base to explore this remote coastline. We have 10 bedrooms, nine with sea views with an open plan restaurant with contemporary rustic charm and a roaring log fire.

More of an Inn than a hotel we are ideally positioned to visit Alnwick, which is only ten minutes away without the hustle and bustle and close enough to visit the Farne islands and Holy Island. Edinburgh is about a two hour drive away, Newcastle forty minutes and the Cheviot hills are within thirty minutes away.

The Sportsman Hotel, Embleton (07958635532 ), has a simple menu that might include grilled pears with Oxford Blue dressing and casserole of Cheviot lamb. About Ł24 for three courses.
